Mr. Child is the senior trial attorney and founding partner at Child & Jackson Personal Injury Lawyers. Mr. Child has been trying cases for over 23 years, having won numerous successful verdicts with few losses.
Mr. Child began his education by attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah on a scholarship for music performance, playing saxophone, bassoon, flute, and clarinet in jazz and rock bands, symphonies, orchestras, and chamber orchestras. While attending college Mr. Child played rugby and worked full time manufacturing safes and oil drilling equipment. He interrupted college to serve a mission for his church in Norway for two years, where his mother immigrated from, before returning to BYU. Mr. Child switched his major to international/comparative law, economics, and national security culminating in a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations in 1993. Mr. Child pursued his studies in international law at McGeorge School of Law, but ultimately changed his emphasis to complex civil litigation before graduating in December of 1997.
Mr. Child began his legal career as a litigation clerk at Beyer, Pongratz and Rosen, APLC., starting in 1993-1994 where he worked full-time while he attended law school. Mr. Child started litigating as an attorney immediately upon graduation, completing his first trial shortly after graduation and becoming an equal partner in the firm within just a few years. Mr. Child’s initial practice was in general civil litigation with an emphasis on complex business/commercial litigation, real estate litigation, construction litigation, employment and discrimination litigation, and personal injury and environmental litigation.
In January of 2008 Mr. Child founded his own firm to focus solely on personal injury law with an emphasis on complex premises and environmental litigation. Mr. Child has actively managed and/or litigated over 9,000 cases, the vast majority of which were referrals from other attorneys, prior clients, and doctors. Mr. Child practices in both federal and state courts. He has been retained as Pro Hac Vice trial counsel and appellate counsel in multiple other states, including Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and Florida. Mr. Child has a statewide practice, routinely practicing in over 20+ different counties at any given time. Mr. Child has extensive experience in all stages of litigation, including initial pleadings, law and motion, discovery, jury trials, bench trials, binding arbitrations, mediations, federal ALJ hearings, and state and federal appeals. Mr. Child is an ADR volunteer settlement attorney for El Dorado County Superior Court, and a member of the Capital City Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Child is happily married and proud father of nine children. He enjoys scuba diving (especially open water diving with sharks), deep sea fishing, travelling, music, serving in his church, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
